Here is one by the back door of the chalet note the feet. The male bird has a red beak the femail is as above.

As you can see it's feet are not webbed .

Moor Hen

In case you were wondering it is a Moor hen.as it's name suggests it home is the Moorland habitat but it is just as at home in the water.

This guy was a real star,the first day i was down there i took my camera out and walked the ten feet to the gate that takes you across the dam that separates the one lake from the other,and he almost ran over my foot,i focused my camera and clunk! nothing happened,pressed again clunk nothing! opened battery compartment no battery it was sitting on the shelf 250 miles away,DOH!! or words to that effect.walk into Minehead along the coast some 4k according to the os map.by battery £25 well i did need a new battery.Came back and charged battery. Next day out to the lake here he is again hurray!!

Dunster lake

One of the three lakes that are at the back of the site with the old bridge in the far distance.

As far as i can make out it used o connect to the sea as a river but it was closed off at the far end because the beach was prone to flooding.

During the war it was still connected to the sea and i believe it was a base for the Navy who took over the beach for the duration.Indeed there is still a hint of the military camp about it albeit softened by the peace time use of many years.

The Kelts or Celts however you prefer to spell it [both are correct] made offerings to the gods by sacrificing goods in lakes,i can understand this entirely they are very peaceful and otherworldly,perhaps with a hint of danger.
